In Welcome to the Arts Forum
This is happening in a region that continues to be the most unequal in the world and that, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) , will suffer one of the mobile phone number list greatest socioeconomic impacts. It is not that the region is not active in the context of the pandemic, but that the initiatives of the different regional blocs have been disjointed among themselves. This scenario, also favored by the political distance between the countries and the mobile phone number list lack of leadership, has limited the possibility of reaching concerted policies. It is possible to observe that, in almost all the action blocks in Latin America, the main strategies were related to high-level political declarations, publication of reports with epidemiological data, and holding virtual forums on the pandemic. Some moved forward with other more specific initiatives. The Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Caribbean mobile phone number list Community (CARICOM), for example, strengthened regional epidemiological surveillance strategies and discussed the adoption of joint negotiation mechanisms for medicines that already existed before the pandemic. The Common Market of the South (Mercosur) mobilized regional funds for emergency financial support and the purchase of supplies and diagnostic tests, as did SICA. In the cases mobile phone number list of Mercosur and the Andean Health Organization-Hipólito Unanue Agreement (ORAS-CONHU), in addition to political declarations, the main actions have been aimed at organizing operational surveillance and response structures. The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) tried to strengthen cooperation with other international organizations such as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The most recently created Forum for the Progress of South America (Prosur), despite important political declarations, did not advance in the search for more concrete coordination strategies to face the pandemic. Although some mechanisms have held joint virtual events to discuss the issue of covid-19, they have only recently begun to develop more specific articulation strategies between blocs, as is the case of the articulation between ORAS-CONHU, the mobile phone number list Treaty Organization of Amazon Cooperation (OTCA) and the Mercosur Social Institute, which are seeking to optimize resources and develop joint strategies for indigenous health and border problems in the Amazonian countries.
